Today Ellis Island houses a museum reachable by ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey and from the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. The Statue of Liberty, sometimes thought to be on Ellis Island because of its symbolism as a welcome to immigrants, is actually on nearby Liberty Island, which is about 1/2 mile to the south. Statue of Liberty - Get close up pictures of the statue in all her glory as an international symbol of freedom & democracy. The statue, also known as "Lady Liberty," has been a welcome to arriving immigrants, who could see the statue when they got close to arriving at their new home or destination. Empire State Building - See the glittering spire of one of the most famous buildings in the US & the fifth tallest building in the world. The Empire State Building has been named by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The building and its street floor interior have also been designated landmarks of New York City by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Yankee Stadium - The stadium where the Yankees have played since 1923, including their most famous player, Babe Ruth. The baseball superstars prime years coincided with the beginning of the Yankees' winning history. George Washington Bridge - One of the world’s busiest bridges, with 14 lanes on two levels & pedestrian paths. A suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, it is considered one of the world's busiest bridges in terms of vehicle traffic; estimating nearly 300,000 vehicles per day. Grant's Tomb - is a mausoleum containing the bodies of Ulysses S.
